Scarlett O’Hara

Obviously, this cocktail is named after the character from Margaret Mitchell book Gone with the Wind. In a 2014 poll the book rates just behind the bible as the country’s most popular book.  As popular as the book is now, the cocktail is all but forgotten.  It is absolutely delicious if you can get people to try it.  Lots of people who started drinking with Southern Comfort have a negative association with terrible hangovers in their early 20’s.  Go back and evaluate Southern Comfort now as a professional and it is incredibly complex and exceptionally well made by any standard.  You can find recipes with orange juice, cranberry juice, orange juice and cranberry juice.  Cranberry juice is not as intrinsicly southern as orange juice is but I like it with Southern Comfort better.

Suggestions

There are a lot of great bitters out there.  Have some fun experimenting with some citrus bitters to help blend the flavors of the cocktail together.
