Obviously, this cocktail is named after the character from Margaret Mitchell book Gone with the Wind. In a 2014 poll the book rates just behind the bible as the country’s most popular book. As popular as the book is now, the cocktail is all but forgotten. If it did not base itself on Southern Comfort, I think it would be vastly more popular but it is more popular among today’s bartenders to belittle Southern Comfort. Go back and evaluate Southern Comfort now as a professional and it is incredibly complex and exceptionally well made by any standard. Go and taste for yourself.
