Another gift from San Francisco is the Irish Coffee. Some of the best but not necessarily most authentic Irish bars are found in the city by the bay. One thing I love about the Irish bars in San Francisco is you can find them all over the city and they are guaranteed to be filled with colorful conversations you may or may not want to engage in.
Here is the classic recipe, but look into the suggestions section for my favorite recipe for brunches where we are putting out volume.
Ingredients
1 1/2 oz Irish Whisky (Jameson done)
4 oz Coffee (Think Modern Times coffee)
1/2 oz simple syrup
Heavy Cream
Garnish
None
Glassware
Clear glass tempered mugs
Assembly
Place simple syrup into mug and top with coffee. Add whisky and stir. After the mix stops moving top with a 1/2 inch layer of heavy cream.
Suggestions
This is my favorite recipe for large parties at home. For each quart of heavy cream measure 2 oz of Irish Mist. Take heavy cream and place into a blender and and start. Slowly pour a stream of Irish Mist into the blender. Keep chilled and reserve to top coffee mixture. Place green creme de mint into a squirt bottle with a fine nozzle and shake with equal parts of simple syrup to thicken. On the top of the whip cream on each glass draw a four leaf clover with the creme de mint.
As a side note, I like Irish Coffees with a Vienna Roast Coffee.
