Bloody Mary

Bloody Mary

In New Orleans the Bloody Mary is elevated to to an art form.  Every place either makes their own mix or infuses their own vodka even.  If you see a sign out front advertising Bloody Marys for $5, you can expect something delicious. The Bloody Mary almost asks for experimentation.  Bloody Mary contests are among the most fun to judge because of the almost unlimited takes on spices and garnishes.  This recipe can be made from the most simple bar so you can use it in a pinch. If you are making a Bloody Mary in a pinch you probably want to recite this prayer you can borrow from my good friend Sterling Archer.

Ingredients

1 1/2 oz Vodka (I prefer Smirnoff 100 Triple Distilled)

4 oz Tomato Juice

1/2 oz Lemon Juice

1/4 oz Worcestershire

1/4 oz Prepared Horseradish

1/4 oz Olive brine

Garnish

Celery Stalk

Lime wedge

Olive

Celery Seeds

Fresh Ground Pepper

kosher salt

Glassware

10 oz tumbler

Assembly

With a wedge of lime moisten the rim of the glass and crust in kosher salt, cracked pepper, and celery seeds in a shallow dish.  In a shaker combine ice, with all ingredients and stir vigorously until chilled.  Pour contents into a tumbler glass.

Suggestions

Like I said the Bloody Mary begs for experimentation.  For one easy twist try making this basic Bloody Mary with Siracha for Tobasco and Absolut Peppar for unflavored vodka.
